Paul is trying to show that he is more mellow than Jean, IMHO. Although, I don't think Jean would have done much about the journalists either. Maybe say they go good with pepper or something like that.

I'm also Canadian, as you know, and we have a strangely delicate relationship with China dating at least back to PM Jean Chretien.
